December 26, 2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Dmitry B. Nikityuk, Director of the Federal Research Center for Nutrition, Biotechnology and Safety of Food, an outstanding Russian Scholar, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Doctor of Medicine.
After graduation from the Sechenov University in 1986 and following the completion of PhD at the department of Human Anatomy in 1989, he worked at this department first as Assistant, then as Associate Professor and Professor. He defended the candidate and doctoral theses on Human Anatomy in 1989 and 1994, respectively. The title of Professor was granted to him in 1996. He has been Corresponding Member of RAS since 2016, and Academician of RAS for Department of Medical Sciences since 2022.
The scientist created a new scientific field - morphological exocrinology. It detects general and specific patterns of morphogenesis of internal organ mucous glands. He developed their reference ranges, described peculiar features of the exocrine system of the body under the influence of various factors of variability. Dissertations for degree of PhD (1989) and Doctor (1994) of Medical Science are devoted to the issues of morphological exocrinology.
Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Prof. Dmitry B. Nikityuk obtained a vast amount of data about the influence of eating habits on structural and functional characteristics of organs, their systems and apparatuses. Results of development of innovative anthroponutritiological approaches were accepted by the scientific community as a brand-new trend in morphology. Based on these fundamental and applied studies, Prof. Dmitry B. Nikityuk is currently successful at development of a breakthrough scientific trend called anthroponutritiology that unites modern achievements in nutritiology, anatomic anthropology, developmental and constitutional anatomy to improve physical and alimentary status of the population and implement modern highly-effective and health-preserving technologies.
Prof. Dmitry B. Nikityuk, Academician of the RAS, is a leader in the area of using anatomic and anthropometric approaches to estimate the alimentary status of a healthy and sick person. This is especially important to determine constitutional predisposition to some alimentary-dependent diseases. He detected constitutional markers of disposition to alimentary obesity and body mass deficiency. A method of complex anthropometry successfully used in clinical practice has been developed under his initiative.
Prof. Nikityuk developed an algorithm of anthropometric studies which are important during control over the physical condition of population as normal and in case of various diseases.
Prof. Nikityuk is an author of 686 scientific works with 29 monographs, 25 copyright certificates and patents, including the ones published after his election as the correspondent member of RAS in 2016, 341 scientific works with 18 monographs and 19 copyright certificates and patents. He acted as a supervisor and scientific advisor when a world-class morphological school was created and 8 doctoral and 14 candidate theses were defended.
Prof. Nikityuk is engaged in a great scientific and organizational work. He is member of Bureau of Life Science Section of Department of Medical Sciences of the RAS (since 2017); Deputy Chairman of the Working Group under the Presidium of the RAS on optimization of nutrition; expert of the Russian Scientific Fund and Russian Academy of Sciences.
He is President of Scientific Society of Anatomists, Histologists and Embryologists, member of Coordination Council of the International Association of Morphologists and Anatomische Gesellshaft International Anatomic Society. He had been Chairman of Expert Council of Higher Attestation Commission for Medical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences from 2014 to 2016. He is Chairman of Dissertation Council D 001.002.01 at the Federal Research Center for Nutrition and Biotechnology, member of two dissertation councils, member of Editorial Boards of such magazines as ‘Clinical and Experimental Morphology’, ‘Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine’, ‘Morphological Statements’, ‘Issues of Nutrition’ (Deputy Chief Editor), etc.
Prof. Nikityuk was awarded with diploma of V. N. Tonkov Prize of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences for the best work in Normal Anatomy for a cycle of works on development of Anatomical Science (2010), medal ‘For Contribution to Implementation of State Policy in the area of the Scientific and Technological Development’ (2021) and Commendation of the President of the Russian Federation (2021).
Colleagues, students and friends cordially congratulate highly respected Prof. Dmitry Borisovich with the 60th anniversary and wish him good health, long years of professional and creative activity, new victories, achievements and success for the benefit of the Russian Science, Medicine and Education.
